CMHA and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Team Up

The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and the Canadian Mental Health Association Cochrane-Timiskaming Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Gold Miner’s home game.

The Gold Miners’ game on Sunday, January 8th at 4 p.m. will feature a CMHA kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health and more activities related to mental health awareness.

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to implement Talk Today.  Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental  health training specific to suicide prevention.  Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.

“By hosting this event, the Gold Miners are helping to eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues and encouraging discussion within the community about mental health” said Mental Health Coach Chrstine Toppi.

Tickets for the game will be available at the gate.
