CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming Supports National Addictions Awareness Week

National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW) begins Monday, November 14th.  NAAW is an annual national public education campaign coordinated by the Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse in cooperation with all its partner organizations, including CMHA.

This year’s NAAW theme is Addiction Matters, drawing attention to substance misuse as a chronic health issue that impacts individuals, families and communities across Canada – and from which long-term recovery is both attainable and sustainable. With approximately six million Canadians struggling with addiction in their lifetime, the campaign provides an opportunity to learn more about substance misuse prevention and to talk about treatment and recovery.

« Because addiction matters, all Canadians have a fundamental right to access high-quality, consistent prevention, treatment and recovery support services, » said Omer Ducharme, Director of Operations at CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming. “CMHA works to address the many harms of substance misuse and addiction, and bring hope to the lives of those who are struggling with recovery.  We are proud to offer addictions services at CMHA since the transition of services from the Timiskaming Health Unit.”

CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming offers Addictions Services in New Liskeard and Kirkland Lake since the transition of Mental Health and Addictions services from the Timiskaming Health Unit in January 2016. This transition made access to Mental Health and Addictions services eaiser in the Timiskaming District by streamlining services.  For more information on services available at CMHA Cochrane-Timiskaming, contact us at (705) 647-4444 in New Liskeard or (705) 567-9596 in Kirkland Lake.
