Virtual Concurrent Disorders Service (VCDS)

The Canadian Mental Health Association Cochrane-Timiskaming, North Cochrane Addiction Services Inc. Hearst, Kapuskasing, and Smooth Rock Falls Counselling Services in partnership with the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (The Royal), provide access to mental health and addiction care for youth.
The Royal’s Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Virtual Service (VCDS) increases access to specialized services and intensive treatment for people with moderate-severe mental health and substance use disorders living in the Cochrane-Timiskaming region. The Royal’s Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program provides specialized, evidence-based, bilingual services to youth (aged 16-25) living with complex substance use, mental health, and physical health conditions to help clients and their families optimize health and well-being.
Through partnership with substance use and mental health agencies within the Cochrane-Timiskaming region, the service is provided both in-person and virtually by an interdisciplinary team who offer a comprehensive integrated program.
VCDS Clients will benefit from the following:
- Virtual access to specialized clinicians and care at The Royal’s Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders Department from their respective communities.
- An interdisciplinary, multi-site, virtual care team that supports individuals in VCDS before and after program discharge.
- Ensured dedicated care pathways created in collaboration with partners that prioritize access to care collaborative care and client flow.
- Access to specialized care for individuals who don’t have access to technology through satellite sites in partnership locations.
Priority population for VCDS partnership:
- Youth aged 16-25 with moderate to severe substance use disorder(s), with active or recent use and living with co-occurring moderate to severe mental health.
- Youth with specific goals to address their substance use and nurture their mental health (abstinence is not required to be serviced)
- Youth willing and capable to participate in an accessible virtual program.
